    Thank you! 🤗 I did this with fingering weight yarn to bind off the bottom edge of a camisole. It gave a neat and pretty edge. It did curl at first but laid flat once blocked. I am a tight knitter, though, and so the edge was firm and a bit too tight so I tinked it back (pretty easy if you tink with the wrong side facing and pick up the topmost purl bump before undoing each stitch, dropping the lower purl bump that you picked up from the back of the fabric as you go.) I redid the same bind off but added a reverse yarn over just before picking up the purl bump from the back of the fabric. Then bound off this yarn over along with the stitch before. So a combination of this method plus Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off. This added a lot more stretch into the edge and it also laid flat straight away, even before reblocking. I’ll be using this whenever I want a clean and minimal hem. It has the added advantage that if you are playing yarn chicken, you can just keep going in stockinette until you have a yarn tail of about 4 or 5 times the circumference of your hem. That way, you can use almost every bit of yarn. Thank you very much for the inspiration 🎉

      Hi Cheryl. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing discovery. I haven't tried combining Jeny's stretchy bind off with this method. I definitely will. If it keeps the edge from curling even before blocking, it is a valuable method to know. Thank you!

    I have a problem. How do you reinfoce or make the sole of a sock thicker after knitting it. I knitted with double strands but just want the sole thicker. Do I darn the sole? But how? I'm totally lost because I really want to do a good job and don't want the socks to look ugly. I'm sure you'll be able to help as you're always my "go to" when I need advice. 🎉

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday 14 днів тому

      Hi Mareta. The best way to reinforce the sole will probably be to use the duplicate stitch method. It will double the thickness of the fabric. Another option is to knit a piece of fabric in the same size and shape as the sole, and attach this piece to the sole with the regular whip stich. Good luck!

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday 14 днів тому

      Yes, you can use this method to cast on stitches for a seamless project. The easiest way to do it is to make the border back and forth, then rearrange stitches for working in the round and work in the main pattern of the project. After you work a few rounds, close the gap between the first and the last cast on stitches with a few overhand stitches.

      You can combine it with Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off. Just add a reverse yarn over before picking up the purl bump from the back of the fabric and then bind off the yarn over along with the previous stitch. This gives a bit more stretch and I found it also laid flatter 🤓

    This is fascinating--I've never heard of this technique before! I do have a question: what do you do when the cable changes? Ex. you just completed a 2/2 LC, but on the next RS rw it's a 2/1 LC...so on the needles you'd have a gs, 2 k sts, gs, gs, 2 k sts, gs, but to complete the 2/1 LC you'd need gs, 1 k st, gs, gs, 2 k sts, gs. How do you get the first gs into the correct position? I'm about to start Nora Gaughan's Deliciosa pullover and I'd love to try this technique but the motif is organic so the cables change sizes quite a bit from one RS rw to the next. Thanks so much; your tutorials are always so clear and to-the-point and I so appreciate it!

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday 26 днів тому

      Hi Stacey, this method would definitely make Deliciosa cable pattern stand out. But you are right - that particular design is quite complicated. It is best to test the parts where cables change on a swatch to see how that transition looks with ghost stitches. In fact, I am quite curious how the ghost stitches will behave in those cases. If you discover some interesting tendencies, please, let me know. Many thanks :-)
